Welcome

My name is Lisa Palley, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #108222). Although I like to collaborate with my clients and tailor my interventions to best suit their needs, I am a proponent of Attachment Theory, which suggests that relationships with early caregivers can inform our present relational styles.  The majority of my clinical hours have been spent working with middle and high school-aged adolescents throughout the San Francisco Peninsula and Silicon Valley.  As such, I am sensitive to the unique challenges facing our youth in today’s complex and dynamic world.

Prior to becoming a LMFT, I was employed as a publicist and event planner in Los Angeles.  During my tenure, I was exposed to the struggles young professionals face balancing work, relationships, and their physical and mental health, which was the impetus behind my return to graduate school and eventual career change.

I am committed to helping people from diverse backgrounds articulate and achieve their life goals and gain a greater amount of self-compassion and insight in the process.  Currently, I am accepting new clients via teletherapy.

FAQs

How does therapy work? When can I expect to feel better or see results?

Not every client experiences therapy in the same way or progresses at the same rate. At times, therapy can be uncomfortable and painful. It requires unearthing feelings and experiences that the client might have repressed or avoided thinking about. However, the insight that comes from processing feelings in the presence of an empathic therapist can provide a lasting, positive impact on the client’s relationships, level of functioning, and overall well-being.

I work collaboratively with my clients in order to identify treatment goals in a safe, supportive environment. I place emphasis on the client-therapist relationship while learning about the client’s unique background and current challenges. I believe in each individual’s innate capacity to grow and heal when afforded proper time and an attentive, caring audience.

People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, “Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.” I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.
